Islamic cleric has been apprehended for the alleged murder
Shocking incident that has sent ripples through the community of Ilorin, Kwara State, a 29-year-old Islamic cleric, Abdulrahman Bello, has been apprehended for the alleged murder and dismemberment of Yetunde Lawal, a 25-year-old final-year student at the Kwara State College of Education. The two reportedly connected via Facebook, leading to a tragic encounter.
According to the Kwara State Police Command, Lawal was last seen on February 10, 2025, after attending a naming ceremony. She received a phone call, believed to be from Bello, and subsequently left the event. When she failed to return home, her father, Ibrahim A. Lawal, reported her missing at the Oja-Oba Police Division on February 11.
Police investigations swiftly led to Bello’s residence in the Offa Garage area of Ilorin. Initially, Bello denied any involvement in Lawal’s disappearance. However, upon a thorough search of his premises, authorities discovered dismembered body parts in a bowl, later identified as those of Lawal. Confronted with this evidence, Bello confessed to the crime, alleging that Lawal had died from an asthma attack during her visit, prompting him to dismember her body.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the arrest and the ongoing investigation. She stated, “The Kwara Police Command is aware of the gruesome killing of one Miss Yetunde H. Lawal. On 11/02/2025 at about 1800 hours, a case of a missing person was reported at C Division, Oja-Oba, by her father, Ibrahim A. Lawal. Immediately, police detectives swung into action, tracked her number, and arrested a suspect. Exhibits were recovered, and the case was transferred yesterday to the SCID for discreet investigations.”
