FUNAAB Professor Killed in Hit-and-Run Incident

A professor at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has lost his life in a tragic hit-and-run accident, sending shockwaves through the academic community and beyond. The incident occurred along Alabata Road, a major route leading to the university, leaving colleagues, students, and residents in mourning.

Eyewitnesses reported that the professor was struck by a speeding vehicle while walking along the roadside. The driver, rather than stopping to offer assistance, fled the scene, leaving the victim critically injured. Passersby who witnessed the incident attempted to rush him to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Authorities have launched an investigation to identify the driver responsible for the fatal accident. The Ogun State Police Command, in collaboration with local security agencies, is reviewing surveillance footage and gathering eyewitness statements to track down the perpetrator. Meanwhile, the university community has expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing the late professor as a dedicated academic and mentor whose contributions to research and education were invaluable.

Students and staff at FUNAAB have called on the government to improve road safety measures around the institution, citing an increasing number of accidents involving pedestrians and motorists. The Alabata Road, a major thoroughfare for both students and faculty, has been a concern due to reckless driving and inadequate pedestrian infrastructure. Calls for better road signs, speed bumps, and stricter law enforcement have intensified following this latest tragedy.

As the investigation continues, authorities urge anyone with information about the incident to come forward. The hit-and-run case has once again highlighted the dangers of reckless driving and the urgent need for improved road safety enforcement in Ogun State and beyond.
