NDA Set to Conduct Live-Fire Military Exercise in Kaduna
The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) has announced that it will carry out a major live-fire training exercise for cadets of the 75 Regular Course from Wednesday, April 10 to Friday, April 12, 2025. The military drill, tagged Elementary Application of Fire, will take place at the NDA Open Range in Afaka, Kaduna State.
According to an official statement issued by Major Mohammed Maidawa, Public Relations Officer of the NDA, the exercise is a critical component of the cadets’ field training. It is designed to provide practical experience with live ammunition in controlled scenarios, sharpening their combat readiness and tactical response in real-time environments.
“This exercise is part of the NDA’s rigorous training curriculum aimed at equipping officer cadets with the necessary skills in weapon handling, fire discipline, and coordinated field maneuvers,” the statement read. “It is a non-negotiable component of the academy’s long-standing commitment to excellence in military education.”
In light of the nature of the exercise, the NDA has issued a public safety advisory to residents of communities surrounding the Afaka Range. Herders, farmers, and local travelers are specifically cautioned to avoid the area throughout the duration of the exercise to prevent any incidents or disruptions.
“We kindly urge members of the public, particularly those living around the Afaka axis, to stay clear of the NDA Open Range between April 10 and April 12,” Major Maidawa added. “This measure is strictly to ensure safety and prevent unintended exposure to live ammunition training.”
The Academy has also emphasized that there will be no access to unauthorized individuals within the vicinity of the range during the period. Security personnel will be on high alert to enforce the restricted area protocol, and local leaders have been contacted to assist in spreading the awareness within affected communities.
While urging calm, the NDA assured the public that all necessary precautions have been taken to guarantee the safety of both the cadets and nearby residents. The institution expressed its appreciation for the cooperation and understanding of the host communities and reiterated its dedication to maintaining peaceful civil-military relations.
