Ebonyi State Governor Suspends Three Commissioners for Absenteeism

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has taken decisive action against absenteeism within his administration by suspending three commissioners for failing to attend a crucial State Executive Council meeting.

The suspended officials are Solomon Azi, Commissioner for Grants and Donor Agencies; Victor Chukwu, Commissioner for Environment; and Ikeuwa Omebe, Commissioner for Rural Development. Their suspension, effective immediately, will last for one month. During this period, they will be stripped of all privileges associated with their positions.

Jude Okpor, the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, announced the suspensions during a press briefing on Tuesday. He emphasized that the affected commissioners were absent from the Monday, March 17, 2025, executive council meeting without prior permission, a violation of administrative protocols.

Governor Nwifuru has consistently warned against absenteeism and a lackadaisical attitude among public servants. The recent suspensions underscore his commitment to enforcing discipline and accountability within the state’s workforce. Okpor reiterated the governor’s stance, stating that such behavior would not be tolerated and that all officials are expected to adhere strictly to their duties.

In addition to addressing absenteeism, Governor Nwifuru has issued a stern warning to contractors handling government projects in Ebonyi State. He directed them to expedite their work in line with contractual agreements, emphasizing that the government would employ all legal measures to ensure compliance and timely completion of projects.
