FRSC Warns Against Fuel Scooping and Illegal Mixed Loading

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued a stern warning to the public, particularly members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), against engaging in hazardous practices such as fuel scooping and mixed loading. This advisory was delivered during a town hall meeting held in Lokoja, Kogi State, focusing on the theme: “Dangers of Night Driving, Mixed Loading, Discourage Fuel Scooping, and Enhance Emergency Responses.”

Deputy Corps Commander and Head of Operations at the FRSC Kogi Sector Command, Mr. Odogiyon Moses, addressed attendees, highlighting the devastating consequences these unsafe practices have had in recent times. He recounted a tragic incident in Lokoja where an articulated vehicle transporting both animals and humans was involved in an accident, resulting in nine fatalities and injuries to 60 others. Moses emphasized that without immediate action to discontinue such perilous behaviors, more innocent lives would inevitably be lost.

The practice of fuel scooping, where individuals attempt to collect fuel from crashed or leaking tankers, has been a recurring issue with fatal outcomes. Despite numerous warnings from authorities, many continue to underestimate the risks involved.
