JAMB Lays Down the Law: No Biometric Verification, No UTME for 2025 Candidates
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that candidates who fail biometric verification will be barred from participating in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and its mock version. This measure aims to enhance the integrity of the examination process.
In its latest weekly bulletin, JAMB emphasized that biometric verification is mandatory for all candidates. The board stated unequivocally that candidates unable to undergo successful biometric verification on the examination day will not be permitted to sit for the UTME. Additionally, JAMB has prohibited parents or proxies from conducting transactions on behalf of candidates to prevent data mismatches and unauthorized alterations.
The 2025 UTME is scheduled to take place from Friday, April 25, 2025, to Monday, May 5, 2025. JAMB has reiterated that the registration process is an individual responsibility and cautioned against group or school-based registrations. Such practices can lead to data errors, including mixing, mutilation, and mismatches. The board has warned that any Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers found violating registration guidelines will face suspension. Currently, several centers are under investigation for engaging in malpractice and may have their approvals revoked.
In support of a seamless registration process, the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, visited JAMB’s Lagos zonal headquarters in Ikoyi and the ETC CBT center in Ilupeju on Friday, February 14, 2025. Accompanied by JAMB Registrar Professor Ishaq Oloyede, the minister observed the registration procedures firsthand and engaged directly with candidates to understand their experiences. This visit underscores the ministry’s commitment to ensuring a transparent and efficient examination process for all prospective tertiary institution students.
Candidates are advised to ensure their biometric data is accurately captured during registration to avoid complications on the examination day. Adherence to JAMB’s guidelines is crucial for a successful examination experience.
