NDA Announces Military Shooting Exercise in Kaduna, Advises Residents to Keep Off

The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) has issued a safety advisory to residents of Afaka, Kauya, and Mando in Kaduna State, urging them to avoid the open range area during an upcoming shooting exercise. This exercise is scheduled to take place from February 26 to March 1, 2025, as part of the advanced application of fire package for Army Cadets of the 72 Regular Course.

According to a statement released by the NDA’s Public Relations Officer, Major Muhammad Maidawa, the exercise will involve live firing of arms, which is essential for the training and development of the cadets. To ensure public safety, barriers and warning signs will be placed around the range areas to indicate restricted zones. Residents, particularly farmers, pedestrians, and cattle rearers, are strongly advised to adhere to these warnings and avoid the area during the exercise period.

The NDA emphasizes that the safety and well-being of all citizens in the surrounding communities are a top priority. The Academy has called for cooperation and collaboration from community members to ensure their safety and the effective training of military personnel. By steering clear of the designated area, residents can help prevent potential harm to civilians and contribute to the success of the training exercise.

This upcoming exercise is part of the NDA’s ongoing efforts to enhance the operational readiness of its cadets. In previous instances, such as in April and July 2024, the Academy conducted similar shooting practices in Kaduna and Plateau communities, advising locals to stay away from firing areas and not to panic. These exercises are crucial for assessing cadets’ leadership skills, tactical proficiency, and overall preparedness for commissioning into the Armed Forces.

Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any concerns to the appropriate authorities. The NDA assures the public that all necessary precautions are being taken to minimize risks and ensure the safety of both the cadets and the civilian population during this period.
