Nigerian Army Advises Akwa Ibom Residents to Avoid Shooting Range During Training Exercise

The Nigerian Army’s 2 Brigade, stationed in Abak Local Government Area (LGA) of Akwa Ibom State, has announced its First Quarter Range Classification Exercise for 2025. Scheduled from March 19 to March 28, 2025, this exercise will take place at the 6 Battalion (6 Bn) Range Area in Abak LGA.

In light of the upcoming training, Lieutenant Adebowale Adejimi, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, issued a public advisory. He urged residents to avoid the designated exercise area and remain calm despite the anticipated sounds of gunfire during the period. The statement emphasized that comprehensive safety and security measures have been implemented to protect both the range and its surrounding areas.

The Range Classification Exercise is a routine military activity designed to assess and enhance soldiers’ weapon handling and marksmanship skills. Such exercises are vital for maintaining operational readiness and ensuring that military personnel can effectively respond to real-life combat scenarios.  Additionally, in September 2024, the 6 Brigade in Jalingo, Taraba State, warned the public to stay away from shooting range areas during their Annual Range Classification exercise, emphasizing the importance of public safety during such drills.
