OAU to Honor Fallen veterinary technologist Mauled by Lion

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State, has announced plans to honor Mr. Olabode Olawuyi, a dedicated veterinary technologist who tragically lost his life after being attacked by a lion at the university’s Zoological Garden. The incident occurred on February 19, 2024, while Mr. Olawuyi was performing his duties within the facility.

In a statement released by the OAU Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olanrewaju, the institution expressed profound sorrow over the loss and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, has mandated a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the unfortunate event. Preliminary reports suggest that the incident may have resulted from human error, as indicated by the Students’ Union President, Abbas Akinremi.
