Tinubu’s Economic Record Under Fire: Katsina Youths Decry Hardship, Threaten Re-election Consequences
In a significant political development, the Katsina Progressive Youths Alliance (KPYA) has expressed profound dissatisfaction with the current administration’s handling of critical national issues. The group has aligned itself with the Katsina Elders Forum’s recent stance, which threatens to mobilize against President Bola Tinubu’s potential re-election bid if pressing challenges such as insecurity and economic decline are not adequately addressed.
In a statement released on Sunday in Katsina, KPYA’s spokesperson, Kabir Umar, emphasized the organization’s endorsement of the Elders Forum’s position. The group voiced concerns over the administration’s perceived persecution of critics, notably Professor Usman Yusuf, and its failure to tackle pervasive issues including rampant inflation, persistent insecurity, and the deterioration of essential public services.
The KPYA also addressed the recent dissociation by Justice Sadiq Abdullahi Mahuta from the Elders Forum’s stance. The group questioned Justice Mahuta’s apparent satisfaction with the prevailing conditions, highlighting the extreme poverty, escalating inflation, ongoing security challenges, unreliable electricity supply, declining educational standards, and a faltering healthcare system that currently afflict the nation.
The statement posed critical inquiries: “Is Justice Mahuta satisfied with the current state of extreme poverty, rampant inflation, perpetual insecurity, constant electricity shortages, declining standards of education, and a crumbling healthcare system? Is he delighted with Nigeria’s collapsing economy? Does he believe that these failures are acceptable or justified?”
By distancing himself from the Forum’s position, the KPYA suggested that Justice Mahuta might be implicitly endorsing the continuation of the current administration’s policies, despite widespread public discontent.
The group underscored the necessity for leaders to prioritize the welfare of the populace over political considerations and condemned the suppression of dissenting voices.
The KPYA’s statement further asserted, “The time has come for us as a country when silence is no longer golden, and we must hold our leaders accountable for their actions or inactions.”
